MIAMI – The Miami Marlins have announced that East Stroudsburg University baseball alumnus Bill Hezel '10 has been named the organization's director of pitching.
Hezel spent the past two seasons with the Los Angeles Angels, serving as assistant pitching coach in 2023 before transitioning to pitching integration strategist this past season. Before his time with the Angels, he served as director of pitching for Driveline Baseball in Seattle for five years and held a pitching consultant role with the Philadelphia Phillies.
"ESU baseball would like to congratulate Billy on his new position with the Marlins," 18th year Warriors head coach John Kochmansky said. "He continues to make us proud as an alumnus, exhibiting the work ethic and perseverance in the MLB ranks that he did as a Warrior."
Hezel, an East Stroudsburg North graduate, transferred to ESU from Lehigh University after two seasons with the Mountain Hawks. He made 24 appearances for the Warriors, posting a 5-1 record his senior season in 2009, which tied for the team-high in wins. He posted a 3.75 ERA in his final collegiate season, striking out 36 batters in 36 innings. The Warriors recorded a then-school-record 32 wins that year.
Hezel was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District team and earned PSAC Top 10 honors in spring 2009.
After graduation, he worked as a retirement plan analyst and salesman for ADP. He began his coaching career as pitching coach and recruiting coordinator at Northampton Community College, a position he held for five years. He later transitioned to DeSales University as the Bulldogs' pitching coach in 2017.
Hezel graduated from ESU in 2010 with a bachelor's degree in sport management.
