Emily Klein Claims Title, Six Warriors Place at Wasps Open

EMORY, Va. – Highlighted by a first-place finish by Emily Klein, six East Stroudsburg University women's wrestling team members finished in the top-three of the Wasps Open on Friday at King Center Gymnasium.

Along with Klein's title at 110, Tiana Savino (2nd place, 110), Isabella Washington-Vasquez (2nd, 117), Zoe Gress (2nd place, 131), Waverly KaneLong (3rd place, 124) and Tiffani Baublitz (3rd, 160) all earned top-three placements for the Warriors.

Notables

  • Along with Klein's title at 110, Tiana Savino (2nd place, 110), Isabella Washington-Vasque (2nd, 117), Zoe Gress (2nd place, 131), Waverly KaneLong (3rd place, 124), and Tiffani Baublitz (3rd, 160) all earned top-three placements for the Warriors.
  • Klein secured three wins to claim first place, with a fall and two tech falls, including a victory over teammate Savino in the finals.
  • Savino recorded wins by decision and tech fall before falling to Klein in the championship match.
  • Washington-Vasquez reached the finals with three pins but fell by tech fall to Brewton-Parker's Jamesa Robinson.
  • Gress advanced to the finals with back-to-back falls and a tech fall before losing an action-packed 19-17 decision to Iyanna Crawford (Pembroke RTC) in the first-place match.
  • KaneLong rebounded from a quarterfinal loss to nationally-ranked Alyssa Mahan (Presbyterian) with three consecutive wins, finishing the day 5-1. She tallied three falls and two tech falls, including a decisive 10-0 victory over Reagan Riddick (Presbyterian) in the third-place match.
  • Baublitz opened with a tech fall win but suffered her first loss at ESU, pinned by No. 7 May Cuyler (Presbyterian). She ended the day strong with a fall and a tech fall to claim third place. Baublitz now holds a season record of 15-1 after her 4-1 performance.
  • ESU totaled the second-most pins (23), tied for the tournament lead in tech falls (10), and achieved victories in over 60% of its matches (57-37) among 18 teams with wrestlers participating.
