Warriors Conclude Final Day of the 45th Annual Midwest Classic

INDIANAPOLIS — The East Stroudsburg University men's wrestling team concluded competition at the University of Indianapolis' 45th Midwest Classic on Sunday inside Nicoson Hall.
 
Sophomore Layton Schmick (pictured above) (285) returned as the Warriors' lone wrestler on the second day and went 1-1. In the fifth round, he won by major decision with a score of 14-1. Schmick then fell in the sixth round of the consolation bracket to the 10th-ranked 285-pounder in the nation, who went on to claim third place.
 
Schmick finished the tournament 3-2, winning two matches by decision and one by major decision earlier today.
 
The Midwest Classic featured an extremely strong field, with 21 of the 43 teams appearing in the latest NWCA Division II Top 25, including six of the top 10 teams.

Up Next

ESU will have some time off before getting ready for their dual meet at New Jersey City on Jan. 10 at 7 p.m. The following day, they will host Felician for a dual meet scheduled to start at 3 p.m.
