Dutch Duo Set Pair of Program Records for ESU on Final Day of PSAC Championships

CARLISLE, Pa. – The East Stroudsburg University swimming team closed the PSAC Championships with a pair of program-record-breaking performances, as Anique Hazebroek clocked a time of 17:42.23 in the 1650-yd freestyle and Vera Renshof took third place and broke her 100-yd freestyle record (51.03) on the final day of the PSAC Championships on Saturday at Keystone Aquatic Center.

ESU finished the meet in ninth place, totaling 384.5 points.

Notables
  • Hazebroek, who broke the 500-yd freestyle record on Friday, set another record set 10 seasons ago by Allison Schafer with the 1650-yd freestyle record of 17:42.33. Schafer tallied a time of 17:50.50 during the 2013-14 season. The freshman from the Netherlands took sixth place in the event, dropping over 50 seconds from her seeding time.
  • Renshof, who took second place in the 50-yd freestyle and fifth in the 200-yd freestyle earlier in the championship meet, took third place in the 200-yd freestyle preliminary round (51.66).
  • Jenna Johnson qualified for the finals of the 200-yd backstroke, clocking a mark of 2:12.68 for 24th place.
  • Hazebroek and Renshof combined to break three event records, as Renshof broke the 50-yd freestyle record twice along with the 100-yd freestyle. Hazebroek shattered the 500-yd freestyle and the 1650-yd freestyle.
How It Happened – Session 7
  • Hazebroek tallied her program mile freestyle record in the first session of the day, finishing the best time prior to the final heat in session eight. She finished sixth overall.
  • Helia Wang also registered a top-10 time in the 1650-yd freestyle with the seventh fastest time in program history (18:57.23). Madison Tafe (19:10.91) and Sam Grayauskie (19:16.43) also competed.
  • Renshof took third in the preliminary round of the 100-yd freestyle, with a time of 51.66, setting herself up for the record-breaking performance in the finals.
  • Kennedy Leveto tallied a top-10 program mark of 2:27.97 in the 200-yd breaststroke. in a new personal-best time. Her time ranks fourth-best all-time, taking ninth in the preliminary round.
How It Happened – Session 8
  • Renshof tallied a program record time of 51.03 in the 100-yd freestyle breaking her record of 51.37 set last season at the PSAC Championships.
  • Johnson took 24th in the finals of the 200-yd backstroke, as her time of 2:12.65 ranks sixth all-time at ESU.
  • Leveto registered a time of 2:28.49 in the finals of the 200-yd breaststroke, taking 11th overall.
  • In the final event of the championships, the Warriors took seventh in the 400-yd freestyle relay, nearing a school record mark, as the crew of Hazebroek, Leveto, Johnson and Renshof clocked a time of 3:36.20, besting their seed time by over eight seconds.
