Men’s Wrestling Dominates Shippensburg for First PSAC Win

EAST STROUDSBURG – Back in Koehler Fieldhouse for the first time in 68 days, the East Stroudsburg University men's wrestling team earned a dominating 41-8 victory over Shippensburg in a PSAC dual on Tuesday night.

The Warriors, who were receiving votes in the latest edition of NWCA Top 25 (Jan. 22), won eight of 10 bouts to defeat the Raiders (1-13, 0-4) for the seventh consecutive time, improving to 4-4 overall this season and 1-4 in the PSAC.



Notables
  • Sophomores Brady Carter (125) and Ben Makaritis (133) collected forfeit victories at their respective weights to open the dual, putting ESU ahead 12-0
  • After a Shippensburg major decision at 141 pounds cut ESU's lead to 12-4, senior Jacob Remolina answered with a 21-4 technical fall, his second of the season, over Anthony Lavis to extend the Warriors' advantage back to 17-4. The Coventry, Rhode Island native moved to 16-8 overall and 4-2 in duals this season.
  • Moving to 157, Eric Falleni dominated the Raiders' Kyle Everly as the senior shutout his opponent with a 12-0 major decision to push ESU's lead to 21-4. With the win, Falleni improved to 21-11 on the season and 2-1 in duals.
  • ESU continued to collect wins at 165 pounds as junior Luke Ciampa closed out a 19-3 technical fall against Cole Lang in the final seconds of the third period to make the score 26-4 in favor of the Warriors. The Jefferson N.J. native now holds a 24-7 record overall and 4-2 mark in duals this year.
  • Robert Burke made quick work of Shippensburg's Liam Bostrom at 174 pounds as the sophomore pinned his opponent in 1:33, giving the Warriors a 32-4 lead. Burke tallied his 16th win overall and second in duals this season.
  • Despite trailing 7-3 entering the third period, junior Ajay Hiller battled back to top Diesel Koser at 197 pounds, 12-9, in overtime with a takedown to stretch the Warriors' edge to 35-8. The East Stroudsburg product pushed his record to 19-9 overall and 4-2 in duals.
  • Layton Schmick finished the match with a bang as he pinned Demetrius Daniels in 1:30 for his seventh consecutive win, making the final score 41-8. Schmick continued his dominating freshman campaign as the Carlise native is now 24-3 overall and 6-1 in duals while producing 12 falls.
  • The Warriors are now 16-5 against Shippensburg dating back to the 1999-00 season and improved their record in the all-time series to 38-17-1
