EAST STROUDSBURG – Following a four-game sweep over the weekend, East Stroudsburg University baseball's
Ryan Dewees and
Shanley Wall were named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East Pitcher and Athlete of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
Dewees and Wall collect the weekly award for the first time in their careers after helping ESU to a 4-0 start in the PSAC East and extend their win streak to eight games.
Dewees was spectacular on the mound in game three of ESU's sweep of Lock Haven as the sophomore twirled his first career complete game shutout (7.0 innings) behind a career-high eight strikeouts while limiting the Bald Eagles to three hits. The Lincoln University, Pa. native has not surrendered a run across his last 12 innings pitched and lowered his ERA to 3.06 across 17.2 innings.
At the plate, Wall went 6-for-11 (.545) with two doubles, a home run, three walks, seven runs scored and two stolen bases to go along with a .625 on-base and 1.000 slugging percentage. The sophomore went 2-for-4 with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored in the opening game of the series before going 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI and two runs in Sunday's first contest against the Bald Eagles.
ESU (11-3, 4-0) swept the conference weekly awards for the ninth time since 1991 and the first since March 25, 2019, when Nate Fiala and
Logan Stirr were honored for their accomplishments.
Dewees, Wall and the Warriors look to keep it rolling on Friday & Saturday with a four-game set against Shepherd.
