SHIPPENSBURG – Cole Gorham and Aaron Sanchez claimed titles in their respective events for the East Stroudsburg University men's track and field team on day two of the 2024 PSAC Outdoor Championships on Saturday at Seth Grove Stadium.
Despite the rainy conditions, Sanchez persevered as the junior captured the high jump title after clearing the bar at 1.95m (6-4 ¾) on his first attempt. Sanchez totaled the ninth high jump title for the Warriors in program history at the outdoor championships and the first since
Carlos Pepin in 2021.
Gorham captured just the second discus title in school history and became the first ESU thrower to do so in 27 years as Russ McGeehan took first place back in 1997. The All-American, who currently ranks second on the NCAA Division II performance list, launched the discus further with every throw as he ultimately won the event with a mark of 56.58m (185-7).
In the team standings, the Warriors remained second with 49 points while 15-time defending champion Shippensburg was at the top with 84.83 points headed into the final day of events.
Running Highlights
A pair of Warriors are moving on to tomorrow's 110m hurdles finals as defending champion Kobe Jenkins took fifth place in the preliminaries with a time of 15.07, while freshman Ragiariki Lewis finished eighth at 15.16.
A trio of ESU sprinters advanced to the finals in 400m, led by senior Zandrew Bowe in third with a season best-time of 49.23, while Zephyr Crestwell (49.34) and Tyler Boone (49.61) took fifth and seventh place respectively.
In the 100m, sophomore Miguel Charlery captured the final spot in tomorrow's finals as he clocked a time of 10.88. Freshman Bryson Gilchrist finished ninth at 10.99 and sophomore Justin Gockley took 12th with a time of 11.07.
Tim Gale punched his ticket to the 800m finals as the freshman ran the sixth fastest time in the prelims at 1:55.53.
A pair of Warriors are moving on to the finals in the 200m as Charlery took third place in the prelims after crossing the line in 21.86, while Boone was ninth, however he won Heat 2 with a time of 22.20.
Back on the track for the 400m hurdles, Lewis finished in a tie for 11th place after crossing the line in 57.46 and Liam Beifus took 13th with a time of 57.48.
In the 300m steeplechase, junior Evan Wooby rounded out the top-10 with a personal-best time of 9:51.56 and freshman Liam Hansberry was 19th at 10:25.52.
Field Highlights
Alongside Sanchez's first-place finish in the high jump, freshman Drew Domurat and sophomore Daniel Smith finished in a tie for fifth as the duo both cleared a height of 1.90m (6-2 ¾) on their first attempts.
Joining Gorham on the podium in the discus was sophomore Anthony Voto in sixth with a mark of 46.28m (151-10) while Isaac Almoney (42.98m – 141-0) and Josh Meshach (42.28m – 138-8) finished 11th and 13th respectively.
The Warriors recorded a pair of podium finishes in the long jump led by Jack Gorham in fifth place with a mark of 6.89m (22-7 ¾) on his final leap, while Gilchrist was not far behind in seventh at 6.82m (22-4 ½).
