LOCK HAVEN, Pa. -- The East Stroudsburg women's volleyball team swept Lock Haven on the road Friday evening. The set scores were 25-17, 25-16, and 25-22.
The Warriors improved to 14-5 overall and 4-2 in the PSAC while the Bald Eagles fell to 5-14 overall and 3-4 in the conference.
Notables
Both Anna Coulter and Romina Martinez led the way, each contributing 12 points. Coulter led with eight kills, had a service ace, and notched five total blocks. Martinez recorded four service aces and posted seven kills along with Allison Birtcil. Both Coulter and Birtcil hit a .353. Kyra Bishop contributed six blocks, five points, two kills, and 18 assists.
As a team, ESU hit .202 compared to Lock Haven's .070. The Warriors recorded 31 kills, seven aces, and 10 blocks.
How it happened
Set 1: ESU began the match with a five-point run that included consecutive aces, a kill from Coulter, and a block from Coulter and Bishop. Lock Haven got on the board with a kill to make it 5-1. The Warriors went on another five-point run to jump ahead, 12-3. A hammer from Kelly Crites put the Warriors up by 10 points, 16-6. Three consecutive kills from Lock Haven's Madelyn Mitchell and a service ace brought the Bald Eagles within eight, 19-11. Coulter's third kill of the match secured the first set for the Warriors.
Set 2: Marta Leeland put ESU on the board first with a service ace. Their third five-point run extended the lead to 7-1. Lock Haven's block cut their deficit to three points at 9-6. ESU stayed ahead as Lock Haven pulled close to get within three points at 18-15. The Warriors capped the second set with a 7-1 run.
Set 3: The teams traded points in the beginning of the set before Lock Haven took their first lead of the match, 3-4. Both teams took turns trading the lead until the Warriors went on a four-point run to get ahead, 15-11. The Bald Eagles responded with a 5-1 run to tie the score at 16 each. Three attack errors from the Bald Eagles put ESU ahead 20-17. The Bald Eagles had a late push to get back in front at 21-22, but the Warriors closed out the set following four straight attack errors
