ALBION, Mich. — The ESU men's wrestling team had a successful day over at the Albion Open, picking up six weight class bracket wins and finishing first overall at the tournament.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Joe Aldrich started his day with a quick pin in his first match, following that up with win a win by major decision and two by decision. In the finals of the 141-pound bracket, Aldrich won 16-2 by major decision over Mazzy Lambert from Southwestern Michigan
- Austin Noe made easy work of the 149-pound bracket in his first four matches, winning three by fall and a fourth by technical fall. Noe's hot streak continued in the finals, winning 15-0 by technical fall against Xavier Carpentier from Albion.
- Anthony Lawrence had a dominant day in the 165-pound bracket, going 4-0 to claim the championship. Lawrence pinned all of his opponents, with the longest match only going 2:01.
- Luke Ciampa used three wins by fall to advance to the finals in the 184-pound bracket, finishing the day with a win by major decision. He bested Owen Turnbow from Albion by the score of 23-10 in the final round.
- Robert Burke only needed three wins to come away with the 197-pound title, and he picked all three of them up by fall. He pinned Juuso Young from John Carroll in 2:20 in the championship round.
- Ajay Hiller went 5-0 to win the 285-pound bracket, with four wins by pin. In the final round, Hiller took down Adrian's Scott Smith by fall in 2:32.
