Volleyball Advances to Semifinals with Win Over Seton Hill

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. -- The East Stroudsburg women's volleyball team defeated Seton Hill in a five-set thriller in the opening round of the PSAC Tournament on Tuesday evening. Set scores were 23-25, 25-17, 17-25, 25-15, and 15-8. 

Notables 

The Warriors are now 6-0 when matches go to five sets and extended their win streak to 12 matches.  

Anna Coulter broke her career record with 23 kills tonight, had a .512 hitting percentage, and totaled five blocks. Kelly Crites posted 17 kills and had 15 digs, while Romina Martinez rounded out the top three on the team with 13 kills and one block. Kyra Bishop posted four blocks while Harry Berry totaled four and posted two solo blocks.  

How it happened 

Set 1: The Griffins scored the first two points before consecutive kills from Coulter and one from Martinez put the Warriors ahead, 3-2. ESU used a 5-2 run and consecutive kills from Berry to push the score to 10-7. Seton Hill tied the score at 11 each before they grabbed their first lead of the set. The Griffins surged ahead to 23-16, until ESU responded with a 6-1 run to pull within one point, 23-22. The teams each scored a point but a kill gave the Griffins the first set.

Set 2: Martinez began the second set with consecutive kills to put ESU on the board first. The Warriors extended their lead to six points at 9-3 from two kills and a block. Seton Hill responded with a 7-2 run to shorten the deficit to 16-14. Two back to back kills from Coulter and one from Martinez extended their lead by six, 20-14. Two kills from both Crites and Bishop, and a service ace from Coulter sealed the second set for ESU, 25-17.  

Set 3: ESU began the set with a 6-3 lead however the Griffins responded with five in a row to get in front at 8-6. Another strong run put ESU behind eight points, 15-9. Seton Hill extended their lead to 10 points at 23-13 and posted two more kills to take the third.  

Set 4: ESU put the first three points on the board off of two attack errors and a block from Martinez/Coulter. Two kills by the Griffins tied the score at three each before a back row kill from Martinez and a quick toss over from Coulter put the Warriors back in front, 5-3. Coulter added two more kills to put her total at 20 for the night. A kill from Crites extended the Warriors lead to five, 12-7. Two key blocks from Berry and Berry/Bishop put the Warriors ahead by eight points during a five point run. ESU used two kills and two service aces to force the fifth set, 25-15.  

Set 5: The Warriors opened the fifth set with four straight points and extended their lead to 11-3. A kill from Crites pushed the score to 12-4 as the Griffins responded with a four point run to pull within four. Three consecutive kills from Crites secured the win for the Warriors, 15-8.

The Warriors will host the semifinal and final rounds of the PSAC Tournament on Friday (Nov. 21) and Saturday (Nov. 22) inside Koehler Fieldhouse.
