EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The East Stroudsburg men's wrestling team kicked off its season with the 58^th annual ESU Open at Koehler Fieldhouse, finishing in second place out of 49 teams as a group highlighted by a win by Anthony Lawrence at 165.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

• Lawrence, a junior, started his season with a 5-0 day to claim the crown at 165. Lawrence picked up a win by technical fall to begin the day, followed by two falls and a win by decision to advance to the finals. There, he took on Cole Pangborn from Blair Academy and won via fall to come out on top.
• The Warriors got four other placements across the brackets, followed by a second-place finish from Luke Ciampa. Ciampa picked up wins by technical fall, fall, and major decision to advance to the quarterfinals. After that, he picked up a quick win by fall and a 6-2 decision win to make it to the finals. Taking on Nash Banko of Army Prep, he ended as the runner-up after a 12-3 decision.
• ESU got two fourth-place finishes from Gavin Reynolds at 157 and Joshua Montesino at 165. Reynolds made it to the semifinals off two wins by fall and two by decision, but dropped back to back matches by decision and major decision. Montesino started with a close decision win in the first round, and followed that by picking up a win by fall and advancing off a forfeit to the semifinals.
• In the last placement for the Warriors on the day, Ajay Hiller took fifth-place at 285. Hiller picked up wins by fall and major decision before moving down to the consolation bracket, responding with a 14-4 major decision win and 2-0 decision win to make it to the fifth-place match where he won by no contest.
