MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The No. 16 East Stroudsburg University softball team once again was victorious in both its games, with wins over Barry and Lynn.
The Warriors (6-2) had a big first inning against the Buccaneers (6-4), which led to their first win. Their second victory was a come-from-behind win over the Fighting Knights (6-4).
Pitching Notables
Sarah Davenport (W, 5-0) pitched a complete game in the Game 1 win and three more innings in Game 2 to earn the save, striking out seven batters and allowing only two earned runs in 10 innings of work.
Abbie Landrum (1-0) picked up her first win of the season after throwing two scoreless innings in the second game.
Batting Notables
Tatum Kresley recorded five hits in seven at-bats, crossed home plate twice, drove in a run, and stole a base.
Katie Master hit another three-run home run in the first game and drove in another run in the second game.
Abigail Weirich tallied three hits, two RBIs, two stolen bases, and a run scored.
Kinsley Proepper led the team with two RBIs against Lynn off three hits and crossed home plate once.
Taylor Lipkins had three hits, two runs scored, and stole two bases between the two games.
How It Happened – Game 1
The first inning showed the possibility of a high-scoring game, with the teams combining for seven runs, but it would be the only inning of scoring in the game.
Lipkins started things off with a 3-2 single, then stole second base and scored following a Kresley double to right-center.
After advancing to third on a
Tulana Mingin single, Weirich drove in the second Warrior run on a sacrifice fly.
Following a
Delaney Ridgell walk, Master hit another three-run home run to make it a 5-0 game.
That was her third straight game with a home run after hitting two yesterday (a grand slam and a three-run walk-off home run) in back-to-back games.
In the Buccaneers' half of the inning, they managed to score twice and put a runner in scoring position, but Davenport got out of the jam and continued to cruise the rest of the game, lifting ESU to a 5-2 victory.
How It Happened – Game 2
After Proepper gave the Warriors a 1-0 lead, the Fighting Knights responded with a four-run second inning to take a three-run lead.
ESU did not trail for long, as the team also scored four runs in the third.
Following RBIs from Weirich and Proepper, Master stepped up to the plate with a chance to tie the game with two outs.
On a 1-1 pitch, she did just that with an RBI double to center field. Lynn was a strike away from getting out of the jam, but
Maddy Pritchard delivered with a single to left field to give the Warriors the lead.
The Warriors went on to win 6-4 after a Master sacrifice fly in the seventh.
On the mound, Landrum and Davenport came up big in relief, shutting down the Fighting Knights' offense to help the Warriors to their second win of the day.
