EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The East Stroudsburg University baseball team erupted for 14 consecutive runs on its way to a dominant 24-3 victory over Caldwell on Tuesday.
After dropping two straight games, the Warriors (12-2) responded in emphatic fashion, handing the Cougars (6-2) just their second loss of the season with a 21-run margin of victory.
Pitching notables
Ryan Cavanaugh (1-0) earned his first win as a Warrior, tossing three innings of relief with two strikeouts.
Cole Dymek and
Greyson Norris also made appearances, each throwing a hitless inning.
Batting notables
Dennis Pierce led the way with five RBIs, highlighted by a two-out grand slam in the second inning.
Ryan Manning tallied three hits and drove in two runs.
Shanley Wall and
Walker Zampella each recorded two hits and two RBIs.
A total of 14 Warriors registered at least one RBI, with six posting multiple RBIs.
18 Warriors reached base via a hit or a walk.
How it happened
After Caldwell took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning, ESU took control and never looked back. The Warriors responded with a six-run bottom half, highlighted by Pierce's grand slam.
A two-run third inning extended the lead before another six-run outburst made it 14-2. ESU capped off the dominant performance with an eight-run eighth inning to secure the 24-3 victory.
Since 2003, this marks the 10th time ESU has scored 24 or more runs in a game.
