EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The East Stroudsburg University women's lacrosse team fell behind early but battled back before ultimately dropping a 17-14 decision to No. 3 West Chester at Vonnie Gros Field.
The Warriors (3-2, 0-1) put up a strong fight against the fellow nationally ranked Golden Rams (5-0, 1-0), cutting the deficit to two goals three times in the second half, including twice in the fourth quarter.
Notables
Sadie Kauffman continued her impressive freshman season, scoring seven goals and adding an assist for an eight-point performance. She also caused a turnover, collected four ground balls and recorded five draw controls.
Hannah Schiemer posted a season-best four goals, netting two in each half.
Abby Simonetti tied her season high with 17 saves.
How it happened
West Chester struck quickly, building a 6-1 lead after the first quarter. The Golden Rams extended their advantage to 10-3 in the second before ESU responded with back-to-back goals from Kauffman and
Maddy Poltrack.
After a West Chester goal, the Warriors answered with three straight from Kauffman, Schiemer, and
Campbell Heller to pull within three. The Golden Rams added one more before the half to make it 11-7.
Despite ESU's continued push in the second half, West Chester had an answer for every Warriors goal. ESU cut the deficit to two multiple times, but the Golden Rams held on for the victory.
