NEWARK, Del. — The East Stroudsburg University baseball team defeated Fairmont State, 6-2, on Sunday at Bob Hannah Stadium on the campus of the University of Delaware.
With the win, the Warriors (38-14) advance to the Atlantic Super Regional, where they will face Seton Hill in a rematch of last year's Atlantic Regional pod matchup. The best-of-three series will be held May 22–24 at Creekview Park. ESU previously made the Super Regional in 2022.
Notables
Parker Frey drove in five of East Stroudsburg's six runs with a sacrifice fly, a double, and a home run. He also flashed the leather with an impressive double play in the fifth inning.
Chaise Albus reached base four times, collecting two hits, drawing a walk, and getting hit by a pitch. He also stole two bases.
Shanley Wall and
Jack Rothenhausler each reached base three times. Wall singled and drew two walks, allowing him to swipe three bases. Rothenhausler was hit by a pitch and had two hits, the second of which was his program-record 230th career hit.
Delaware native
Peyton Brannock earned his seventh win of the season at the ballpark where he grew up watching games. He pitched five innings, allowing one run and striking out four.
Jake Albert,
Johansel Brito, and
Caden Parker combined to shut the door out of the bullpen. Albert struck out four over two innings, Brito retired Fairmont State in order in the eighth, and Parker closed out the game in the ninth.
How it happened
Parker Frey drove in the first five runs of the game for East Stroudsburg, starting in the first inning with a two-RBI double that brought home Wall and
Dennis Pierce. He added a sacrifice fly in the third to score Wall again.
Frey capped his five-RBI performance with a two-run homer to right-center in the top of the fifth, driving in
Chaise Albus.
Fairmont State got on the board in the bottom of the fifth, but ESU answered in the eighth when Wall singled home
Francisco Taveras to make it 6-1. The Warriors went on to win, 6-2.
The Fighting Falcons had chances to close the gap, but ESU's pitching staff came through in key moments. In the second inning, trailing 2-0, Fairmont State opened with back-to-back singles but was quickly retired in order, with Brannock ending the threat on a swinging strikeout.
Fairmont State threatened again in the third, putting runners on first and second with one out. Brannock once more shut the door with a flyout and a strikeout to end the inning.
In the ninth, the Fighting Falcons loaded the bases and managed to score a run, but the rally fell short as they were retired to end the game.
