PUEBLO, Colo. — Day 2 of the NCAA Division II Track and Field Championships,
featured Porschia Bennett (high jump),
Shannon Harnett (high jump), and
Cole Gorham (discus) competing for the Warriors, with Bennett and Gorham earning All-America placements.
Harnett recorded a leap of 1.63 meters (5 feet, 4¼ inches) in her first NCAA Championships appearance. Bennett earned the Warriors' first All-America honor of the meet with a third-place finish in the high jump, clearing 1.76 meters (5 feet, 9¼ inches). She is the first Warrior to earn All-America honors in the outdoor high jump since Christina O'Connor placed sixth in 2015. Her third-place finish is the highest by a ESU women's track and field athlete at the outdoor championships since 2011, when Rose Mascoli also placed third in the 10,000 meters and fellow high jumper Lynn Mayer tied for third.
In the discus, Cole Gorham recorded a mark of 52.73 meters (173-0) on his second attempt, earning a 12th-place finish and Second Team All-America honors. Last season, he became the first ESU men's track and field athlete to compete in the discus at the NCAA Championships, and now stands as the only one to do so twice—earning All-America honors both times.
Gorham will look to make history tomorrow by becoming the first ESU men's track and field athlete to earn two All-America honors at the same outdoor championships. The feat has only been accomplished once in program history—during the 2023 indoor season, when Donavan Anderson earned All-America honors in both the long jump and triple jump.
