MANCHESTER, NH – The East Stroudsburg University field hockey team started their season on a high note with a 2-1 win over Saint Anselm at Grappone Stadium in Manchester, New Hampshire.
The Warriors struck early, posting a goal in each of the first two quarters to take a 2-0 lead into halftime. The Hawks answered with a goal of their own in the third, but were unable to overcome the deficit.
ESU is now 4-2 all-time against Saint Anselm.
Notables
Rylie McGrath scored her first goal of the season at the 9:28 mark in the first quarter.
Lisa Pasman and
Puck de Ruiter were credited with assists for the first goal of the game.
Megan Rafter found the back of the cage with a goal in the second quarter.
It was
Kerry Kaufman who was credited with the assist on Rafter's goal.
Kelly Holmes scored the lone goal for the Hawks at the 40:05 mark in the third quarter.
The Warriors held the advantage in shots (17-11) and shots on goal (9-6), while Saint Anselm edged ESU out on corners (10-9).
Sydney Pope earned the win for ESU in cage with 5 saves.
