Men's Soccer Travels to Lock Haven for PSAC Quarterfinals

10/30/2026 3:07:00 PM

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. — Men's soccer is traveling to Lock Haven, Pa. for its first-round matchup in the PSAC Tournament against the Bald Eagles, with kickoff scheduled for 1 p.m. on Sunday.

SCOUTING EAST STROUDSBURG
•    The Warriors concluded the regular season with a 4-3-3 record against conference opponents, going 7-6-5 overall. The seven wins are the fewest under Tom Mustac, but this is ESU's first appearance in the conference tournament with the fourth-year coach at the helm.
•    The Warriors enter the tournament on a four-game skid comprised of three losses and a tie against Millersville. That comes with a grain of salt, though, as the closing game of the regular season saw the starters rest most of the game since ESU was already locked into the No. 3 spot in the standings.
•    Offensively, the Warriors have proven to be a relentless bunch. Their 13.8 shots per game rank fourth in the conference. However, accuracy has been their downfall. The 5.3 shots on goal account for just 38.6 percent of their total shots, ranking seventh and 12th, respectively. Still, ESU is fifth in total goals, tallying 28, with the sixth-ranked scoring offense, racking in 1.56 goals per game.
•    On the defensive side, the Warriors have recorded the third-highest percentage of shutouts of any team in the conference, doing so in 38.9% of games. This comes off the back of 3.44 saves per game, saving 72.1% of shots. Both rank eighth-highest in the conference.
•    Junior Phil Sykes has been a large part of this defense, recording five of ESU's seven shutouts, the second-most of any other PSAC goalkeeper. He also ranks third in average goals against and save percentage, holding teams to just 1.07 goals, saving 76.2 percent of shots.
•    Steven Arias has been the offensive engine for the Warriors, scoring eight goals throughout the regular season, the third-best in the conference. Averaging one shot on goal, Arias places 48.6% of his shots on target, making him the sixth-most accurate shooter.
•    While Arias has been the main scorer, Jeter Cardona was the one finding his teammates for open looks. His five assists on the season are good for fourth in the conference, averaging 0.3 assists per game. His production went beyond that, however, as the sophomore performed strongly in the clutch. A total of three game-winning goals is the third-most in the conference.

SCOUTING LOCK HAVEN
•    The Bald Eagles rounded out their regular season with a 4-1 win over the top-seeded team in the West, Gannon, giving them a 5-1-4 conference record. Lock Haven's first game against the Golden Knights marks the last time they've lost, as they're currently on a 10-game unbeaten streak. The team shows even stronger momentum as of late with three consecutive wins, scoring 12 goals in that span.
•    The Bald Eagles have built a successful offense around setting up scoring opportunities as they lead the PSAC with 5.9 corner kicks per game and are third in total assists, recording 34 of them. This has given them the third-best scoring offense in the conference, notching 1.8 goals per game. Similar to ESU, though, Lock Haven has not been one of the most accurate teams. Despite ranking 10th with 42.6% of shots on target, the Bald Eagles still place 5.4 of their 12.8 shots per game on goal.
•    While Lock Haven may have a strong offense, play on the defensive side of the ball leaves room for improvement. 3.1 saves per game goes as the third-worst in the conference and accounts for just 68.8% of shots faced, also ranking in the bottom three of the PSAC.
•    Ethan Beck has given a solid performance in net for the Bald Eagles, saving 71.4% of shots faced, the fifth-best of PSAC goalies for a total of 40 saves. Despite averaging just over a goal allowed per game, the junior has recorded three shutouts this year.
•    Patricio Zapata has served as one of the primary offensive players, leading the team in shots per game with 2.4. Of his six total goals, two came as game-winners. Totaling 15 points over the course of the season, Zapata ranks 12th in the conference.
•    Another key player on offense has been Austen Veach. The sophomore leads Lock Haven with 16 points from six goals and four assists. His 0.9 goals per game is the 12th-highest in the conference.

SERIES HISTORY
•    The Warriors and the Bald Eagles faced off earlier this season. ESU led in the closing minutes until Lock Haven found itself in a corner kick situation in the final seconds of the game. From the kick, Veach scored a last-second goal to force a 3-3 draw.
•    All-time, the Warriors hold a 48-36-8 record over the Bald Eagles. In the last five matchups, ESU has only been able to claim one win and hold Lock Haven to a tie twice. The last time the two teams met in the PSAC Tournament was in 2007 when ESU came out on top, 1-0.
