MILLERSVILLE, Pa. — The Warriors traveled back to Millersville earlier today to complete their conference-opening series against the Marauders, falling 10-3 and finishing with each team winning two games.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After two games where both teams took some time to get their bats going, Millersville started hot and never looked back. The Marauders scored three runs before recording an out, as Cade Davis hit Donis Rodriguez before Matthew Williams doubled to score him, and then Jimmy Kirk cleared the bases with a home run to left field. The Marauders would add two more in the bottom of the second after Donis Rodriguez sent another two-run home run off the left field pole to make it 5-0.
- ESU got on the board and chipped away at Millersville's lead in the top of the third, scoring twice to make it a two-run ballgame. Zander Condeelis got to second after a single and a wild pitch, and Walker Zampella sent a ball to left field to put runners on the corners. Troy Davis nearly sent a ball over the right field wall, though it was deep enough to score Condeelis. Zampella stole his seventh base of the season to move up to second base before Cole Serfass drew a base on balls, then Parker Frey came through with a single to center field that plated Zampella.
- Millersville responded swiftly, getting the runs right back to restore its five-run lead. Xavier Smith hit a one-out single to get on base, where he would steal second base, advance to third on a wild pitch, and then score on an error all before the next at-bat was complete. Immediately after, Christo Hunsicker hit another home run to left field, ending Davis' day. He'd finish with three strikeouts but seven earned runs in 2.1 IP.
- Easton Albert sparked a mini two-out rally for the Warriors in the top of the fourth, reaching on a double down the left field line. Condeelis then singled to right for an RBI single, chasing Eli Simonton out of the game as Millersville went to Carlos Caraballo. Condeelis followed his hit up with a stolen base, but was left stranded after Caraballo got out of the inning with a full-count strikeout.
- Johansel Brito came out of the bullpen for the Warriors, putting together a solid first 1.2 IP with a strikeout. However, Millersville would add to its lead in the bottom of the fifth. Getting runners in scoring position with just one out, Caleb Sturtevant drove in a run with a fielder's choice, and Christian Cerone would walk to load the bases and prompt ESU to bring in Jaden Newton. Newton forced a flyout, but Rodriguez's fly ball was far enough to bring in another run. Newton was able to limit the damage in the fifth, striking Kirk out for the final out of the inning.
- ESU had a chance in the sixth to mount a rally, as Christian Maccarrone and Albert both got on base with singles to right field. They would remain on first and second base though, as the Marauders retired three straight batters to move on to the bottom half. There, Brady Ebbert homered to left field for the final run of the game, making the final 10-3.
