HOW IT HAPPENED
-
ESU got out to a good start, putting up four in the top of the first inning. Through a combination of plate discipline, contact hitting, and baserunning, ESU took the lead early. Cole Serfass nearly hit a three-run home run, but his fly ball held up just enough to stay in the field and allow Easton Albert to tag up and score. After Troy Davis stole second base, Frey punched one through to left field, making it 2-0. After a double steal attempt, West Chester's catcher Caleb Strawhecker tried to throw out Ryan Manning at second. The throw was off target and made it into the outfield, gifting Frey home plate too. On the next pitch, Connor Reilly singled up the middle, capping off a four-run inning.
-
West Chester got the runs back and took the lead immediately, loading the bases and scoring a run off three-straight walks. Tanner Donati gave the Golden Rams the lead with a grand slam over the right field wall, as West Chester wouldn't trail the rest of the day again.
-
The Warriors made it a two-run game, trailing 7-5 after the top of the third. However, West Chester had success against virtually every pitcher ESU put on the mound. The Golden Rams scored in each inning except the sixth. ESU's bats couldn't keep up with West Chester's, as the Golden Rams raced away with a 22-7 win.
