BETHLEHEM & FAIRFAX, Va. - The East Stroudsburg University men's track and field team had a busy Saturday afternoon competing at both George Mason's Dalton Ebanks Invitational and the Lehigh Invitational.
Senior Luke Valdevit highlighted the day by securing a conference qualifying mark in the 3000m Steeplechase at the Goodman Track & Field Complex in Bethlehem.
At George Mason Stadium, freshman Cole Gorham secured a runner-up finish in the discus while also improving also recoring an NCAA provisional mark and extending his freshman record with a throw of 50.69m (166-4).
Running Highlights
Raul Esteves led the way in the 100m in 17th after finishing in 11.31 and he returned to the track to snag an 18th place finish in the 200m after clocking a season-best time of 22.23.
In the 400m, Sean Roberts finished 25th with a time of 50.66 while Ryan Ditty clocked a time of 51.50 and Zephyr Crestwell at 51.78.
Daniel Daley paced the Warriors in the 110m hurdles in 13th at 15.61, followed by Caleb Carney (15.72) in 17th, Eric Krzyzaniak (22nd – 16.36) and Nasir Kyle (23rd – 16.45). Kyle returned for the 400m hurdles where he ran a time of 1:00.36.
The 4x400m relay team of Roberts, Ditty, Crestwell and Tyler Boone clocked a time of 3:26.11 on their way to finishing fifth.
Field Event Highlights
Making his outdoor debut, Aaron Sanchez was just shy of the PSAC mark in the high jump as he cleared 1.84m (6-0 ½) while taking 18th.
In the pole vault, Robert plumb finished 19th after clearing the bar at a season-best height of 4.07m (13-4 ¼).
Jack Gorham grabbed a 16th place finish in the long jump after leaping 6.23m (20-5 ¼).
His brother, Cole Gorham, continued to impress in the discus as the freshman recorded a personal-best throw of 50.69m (166-4), which still ranks second-best in program history. Isaac Almoney took 22nd after recording a mark of 41.42m (135-11) and Daryn Blackwell was right behind in 23rd at 41.09m (134-10).
Blackwell returned to the throws area with a season-best toss of 52.55m (172-5) in the hammer to take ninth while Almoney notched a mark of 51.69m (169-7) in 11th.
Eric Garner was just shy of the 200-foot mark in the javelin as he record a throw of 60.90m (199-10) in third while Zach Nissley finished 14th with a mark of 51.28m (168-3).
In the shot put, Will Mattei recorded a throw just short of the conference qualifying mark at 13.78m (45-2 ½) in 14th while Almoney grabbed a 19th place finish at 13.16m (43-2 ¼).
Lehigh Invitational
Opening the day at the Goodman Track & Field Complex was Valdevit finishing fifth in the 3000m steeplechase with a conference qualifying time of 10:07.37 while Koodsha Manjaro was seventh at 11:16.08.
Evan Wooby took 24th in the 5000m with a time of 16:34.94 and Jordan Chong-Gayle finished 18th in the 800m with a personal-best time of 1:58.95.
