EAST STROUDSBURG – Freshmen pole vaulters Laura Beimfohr and James Homola led six individual winners and East Stroudsburg University won four of the six relays to highlight the 12th Annual DeSchriver Invitational, which was held Saturday at Koehler Fieldhouse.

Beimfohr tied her school record of 11-0 in the women's pole vault and Homola had a personal best and secured a spot on the men's top 10 list at ESU with a height of 14-6 on the men's side.

Other winners were senior Lynn Mayer, an NCAA automatic qualifier, in the women's high jump (5-6), senior Asher Ashfield in the 55m dash (6.63), sophomore Kyle Soden in the men's high jump (6-4) and freshman Tim Burgio in the long jump (20-11 3/4).

The four relay winners all posted top-10 times in school history, including the women's Distance Medley Relay (#3), men's 4x200m relay (#3), women's 4x200m relay (#4) and men's 4x400m relay (t-#4).

The women's DMR of freshman Kim Wernerspach, sophomore Tara Getz, freshman Kim Lowry and sophomore Corinne Fitzgerald finished in 12:31.86 for the Warriors' fastest time since the school record was set in 1997. In the women's 4x200m, sophomore Lauren Ventrella, senior Jasmine Johnson and freshmen Nicole Brown and Rachel Pierantozzi clocked a time of 1:45.51.

On the men's side, senior Negus Graham and junior Ian Melhorn formed half of the Warriors' 4x200 and 4x400 squads. The 4x200 team of Melhorn, senior Greg Pammer, Graham and Ashfield put down a time of 1:30.66 which was bested in only 2008 and 2010, when Melhorn, Graham, Chris Reddick and Rusty Smith had a DeSchriver Invitational and Koehler Fieldhouse record time of 1:29.09.

In the 4x400, freshmen Keith Parker-Washington, Christopher Walker, Graham and Melhorn turned in a mark of 3:22.86 keyed by a 49-second leg by Graham. The men's DMR of sophomore Amr Aldeen, junior Dan Johnson, sophomore Mike Saparito and senior Chris Zadroga was second in 10:31.50 after Aldeen and Saparito also contributed to an NCAA provisional time of 10:10.60 in the DMR on Friday night at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational.

The meet also featured standout performances from two recent ESU graduates, Drew Miller and Paul Wagner, who set meet records in the triple jump and weight throw, respectively.

Miller had a mark of 49-9 3/4 in the triple jump to break his record of 48-3 1/2 set as a senior at last year's meet. A five-time PSAC champion and four-time NCAA participant, Miller is second on the Warriors' indoor and outdoor triple jump lists and one of two men in school history to clear 50 feet at both venues. He was three-quarters of an inch from the Koehler Fieldhouse record set by West Chester's Eric Broadbent in 2006.

Wagner, competing for Shore Athletic Club, shattered his own meet and Koehler Fieldhouse records with a mark of 68-11 3/4 in the weight throw, breaking last year's mark of 63-7 1/2. Wagner was an eight-time PSAC champion and two-time All-American and holds ESU and PSAC records in the weight throw and hammer throw.

The Warriors had a number of other standout performances aside from their individual and relay winners and record-setters, most notably in the women's throwing events.

In the weight throw, senior Danielle Laws finished second with a personal best of 48-6 3/4 which moves her into a tie for the No. 3 spot on ESU's all-time list, and Elizabeth Madden broke the freshman record with a two-foot PR of 46-0 1/2 to finish fourth. Senior Jackie Berthelsen also PR'd in the shot put and was second at 39-11 1/4, followed by Madden at 39-3 1/4.

On the track, Pierantozzi finished second in a field of 56 competitors in the 55m dash, clocking a time of 7.45 seconds. Fellow freshman Brittany Jones was ninth in 7.76. Lowry and Wernerspach, both members of the winning DMR, were fourth and fifth in the 800m with Lowry's 2:22.94 good for a spot in the Warriors' top 10.

Freshman Bridget McCarron was fourth in the mile (5:26.89), freshman Brittany Callahan placed fifth in the 3000m (11:13.37) and freshman Kelsy Rushing took third in the 5000m (20:07.53).

Brown, Johnson, Ventrella and Getz placed second in the 4x400m relay with a season best of 4:01.24. Ventrella was fourth and senior Brittany Knowles was fifth in the 55m hurdles.

The Warriors' men had several strong finishes from their middle distance and distance runners, while most of the sprinters did their work on the relays. The hurdlers were also in action, where sophomore Corey Young was fourth in 7.91 seconds and Soden was sixth.

In the 800m, Amr Aldeen was third in 1:57.92 and freshman Steve Werley was sixth (2:01.51), freshman Chris Schneider was third in the 1000m (2:40.47), Zadroga was third in the mile (4:29.77) and junior Greg Laraia and freshman Jim Romano were fourth and fifth in the 3000m.

ESU won three of the men's jumping events with Homola in the pole vault, Soden in the high jump and Burgio in the long jump. Burgio was third in the triple jump (42-7 1/2) and freshman Nate Horn tied for third in the long jump (20-7 1/4) and was fourth in the triple jump (42-7 1/2).

Other notable alumni performances came from Chris Reddick, a two-time PSAC individual and four-time relay champion who tied for second in the 55m dash and was third in the 200m; Iuri Pinto, a 2008 outdoor All-American in the 1500 who won the alumni mile; and Amanda Sines, a two-time PSAC shot put champion who won the women's weight throw.

Former ESU record holder Matt Henderson tied for second with Reddick in the 55m dash, four-time NCAA participant Janelle Smith was second behind Mayer in the women's high jump, and former Warrior Shane Burrows was second to Soden in the men's high jump.

Two Warriors coaches also competed and placed in the top three of their events. Graduate assistant Steph Grimm, a graduate of Kutztown, won the women's mile in 5:13.26, and assistant coach Michelle Frayne, a Millersville graduate, was third in the triple jump at 35-10 1/2.
